What 'mobile' really means

A mobile locksmith works from a van fitted with key-cutting machines, programming tools, lock hardware and spare parts. Instead of taking your lock or car to a shop, the workshop comes to you.

Jobs usually finished on site

  • Home, car and office lockouts
  • Rekeying and lock changes
  • Deadbolt and smart lock installation
  • Car key cutting and many transponder programming jobs
  • Broken key extraction

Larger jobs, such as building-wide master key systems, are usually planned and scheduled.

Questions to ask before booking

Ask for a price range, the call-out fee if there is one, and what could change the price. Ask what ID or proof of ownership you'll need. A reputable locksmith is happy to answer all of this before arriving.

When the technician arrives

Expect them to confirm the quote, check your ID and explain the work. Once finished, test every key and lock while they're still there.
